Publicis Groupe FY08 net income down 1.1% - Update

Wednesday, communications services provider Publicis Groupe (PGPEF.PK) reported a decline in net income for the full year 2008, while earnings per share increased from last year. Revenues for the quarter edged up 0.7%

Net income attributable to Publicis Groupe for the year slipped to EUR 447 million from EUR 452 million, while earnings per share rose to EUR 2.12 from 2.02 in the comparable period.

Consolidated annual revenue grew 0.7% to EUR 4.7 billion from last year's EUR 4.67 billion. Organic growth for the period was 3.8%, due to the last three months witnessing markedly difficult period.

In Europe, revenues increased 0.3% to EUR 1.8 billion, while in North American revenues declined 0.4% to EUR 2 billion. Revenues in Asia-Pacific and Latin America increased to EUR 519 million and EUR 238 million, respectively. Africa and Middle East revenues were up 14.6% to EUR 134 million last year.

For the fourth quarter, consolidated revenue was EUR 1.37 billion, up 5.5% from EUR 1.3 billion in the prior year period. Organic growth was 1.1% for the quarter, reflecting the decline of real economy in several sectors.

The company has proposed a dividend of EUR 0.60 per share, subject to shareholders approval and payable on July 6.

Looking forward, the company said that despite a challenging economic environment, it intends to take advantage of its many assets and expand its activities into strong-growth regions. In addition, the group said it expects online advertising expenditure to continue posting rise of 10% or more.

The stock closed Tuesday, at $24.25 on the OTC.
