Tenor Plácido Domingo has undergone successful surgery in order to remove a cancerous polyp from his colon, and has since been released from New York's Mount Sinai Hospital where he had the surgery, according to his publicist.
Though it had been public knowledge that the 69-year-old singer was going in for a procedure, Domingo and his representatives had remained mum on exactly what that procedure was.
Domingo has been ordered by doctors to rest for about six weeks, and is expected to make a full recovery, according to his spokesperson.
He is expected to resume his singing schedule at Teatro La Scala in Milan, Italy on April 16 with a performance of Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra."
In addition to his normal singing schedule, Domingo also serves as the general director of the Los Angeles Opera and the Washington National Opera.
