A freelance writer from Neon Magazine has been fired for lying about an interview that allegedly took place with Beyoncé. The interview, which gave false details about Beyoncé's relationship with husband Jay-Z, made headlines and was syndicated to several blogs before editors questioned its validity.
Editors eventually pulled the story after the writer "was not able to verify" certain statement and has since issued an apology to Beyoncé.
"We do have serious doubts in the truth of many statements of the interview of Ms. Beyoncé Knowles published in NEON, Issue January/2010," the editors say in an official statement. "The article was written by the freelancer Ingo Mocek. The editors-in-chief have confronted Ingo Mocek with these doubts. Ingo Mocek was not able to verify certain statements, particularly the statements regarding a marriage contract of Ms. Knowles. Therefore, we assume that the interview did not take place as claimed by Ingo Mocek."
The statement goes on to state the Neon has "terminated all relationships" with the writer.
