The German market is witnessing volatile trading and is marginally down Friday afternoon, following mixed cues from Asia, and slightly lower futures in the U.S. ahead of quadruple witching. Pharmaceutical stocks fell on reports that a new study rekindled fears that French drug maker Sanofi-Aventis' diabetes drug Lantus may pose cancer risk. Crude for July delivery is trading lower by $0.83 per barrel at $75.96 and gold is higher by $10.4 an ounce at $1259.1.
In a day of sparse economic news, Germany's producer prices increased for the second consecutive month in May, a report by the Federal Statistical Office showed. The producer price index rose 0.9% year-on-year in May, faster than the 0.6% growth in the previous month. Economists had expected an increase of 0.8%.
The DAX opened lower at 6,182 and moved in a range of 6,190-6,257. The index is currently losing 0.15%.
Car maker Bayerische Motoren Werke is rising 2.27%, followed by peer Daimler, which is up 2.20%. Volkswagen is up 0.10%. Truck maker MAN is gaining 0.37%.
Commerzbank is rising 1.06% and Deutsche Bank is trading flat with the previous close. Detergent maker Henkel and steel manufacturer Salzgitter are rising notably. Drug maker Merck is rising 0.29%.
Chemical firm Bayer and utility E.ON are among notable losers.
Across Asia/Pacific, most major markets ended in negative territory. China's Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.84%, India's BSE Sensex dropped 0.26% and Japan's Nikkei 225 slipped 0.04%. However, Australia's All Ordinaries added 0.60%.
In the previous session in the U.S., the Dow gained 0.2%, the Nasdaq advanced 0.1% and the S&P 500 rose 0.1%.
