Biotechnology giant Amgen, Inc. (AMGN) announced Thursday the appointment of Novartis executive Jonathan Peacock as its new chief financial officer, effective September 1.
Peacock will succeed Michael Kelly, who served as acting chief financial officer since May 11, 2010 after Robert Bradway was promoted to president and chief operating officer.
Peacock, who will be responsible for Amgen's finance and investor relations operations, will be reporting directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Sharer.
In a statement, Sharer said, "I am delighted to have a leader of Jonathan's talent, vision and international experience join Amgen at a time when we are expanding globally."
Peacock joins Amgen from Novartis Pharmaceutical AG (NVS), where he served as CFO and administration officer since 2005. Previously, Peacock also spent seven years as a partner at consulting firm McKinsey and Co., where he co-led the European Corporate Finance Practice at its Amsterdam, Zurich and London offices.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Peacock was a partner at Price Waterhouse in London and New York.
Peacock takes over as CFO from Kelly, who served as acting CFO after Bradway was promoted to president and COO in May. Kelly joined Amgen in early 2003 as vice president, Finance, and in August 2005, he became vice president, Corporate Planning and Control, and chief accounting officer. Formerly, Kelly was vice president, Finance for Process Development, Operations and Quality at Amgen.
Bradway joined the company in 2006 as vice president, Operations Strategy and became executive vice president and chief financial officer in April 2007. Prior to joining Amgen, he was a managing director at Morgan Stanley (MS) in London where he had responsibility for the firm's banking department and corporate finance activities in Europe. Bradway joined Morgan Stanley in New York as a health care industry investment banker in 1985.
In Thursday's regular trading session, AMGN is currently trading at $52.70, up $0.08 or 0.15% on a volume of 1.05 million shares. In the past 52-week period, the stock has been trading in a range of $50.32 to $64.76.
