Morgan Freeman's representatives have spoken out against rumors that the 73-year-old has died. Word of the actor's death spread across the web last week after a false comment was posted on Twitter.
According to Freeman's publicity team, the "Shawshank Redemption" star is "very much alive" and the rumor is purely fiction. CNN is thought to have sparked the scandal after breaking a headline reading: "Breaking News: Actor Morgan Freeman has died in his Burbank home."
And though Freeman's reps say CNN is responsible for the false story, the network has issued a statement that the rumor didn't start with them. The network was quick to respond to the accusation, saying: "CNN did not report Morgan Freeman death. Rumor is false. CNN will aggressively investigate this hoax."
Freeman is currently in pre-production for "The Dark Knight Rises," which is the next edition in the "Batman" film franchise.
