Elton John has lashed out at alternative rockers Kings Of Leon for that band's decision to stop the TV show Glee from using its songs. John told the band to "lighten up" about the teen musical series.
Speaking on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, John said, "It's a compliment when someone records or does one of your songs."
He added, "It doesn't matter if it's a bad version, it's just a compliment, so I've never lost that thrill."
Kings of Leon publically spoke out against Glee after turning down an offer to have their hit "Use Somebody" covered in one of the show's episodes.
Other rockers have come out in defense of the Kings, however. In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Dave Grohl, frontman for the band the Foo Fighers, blasted Glee creator Ryan Murphy for his comments about other groups that have denied the show their music.
"It's every band's right, you shouldn't have to do f**king Glee. And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we're not, like, begging to be on his f**king show," Grohl said. "F**k that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee."
