Donna Summer Dies At 63

Donna Summer, 63, died Thursday, May 17 after a battle with cancer. Her family, which issued a statement, said she passed in the morning:

"Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

Summer's break-out hit was the mid-70's tune "Love to Love You." She went on to have a series of disco hits throughout that decade. By the 80s she had broken free from the disco genre with hits like "She Works Hard for the Money."

TMZ reported that Summer was working on a new album at the time of her passing.
