Keeping an eye on OccuLogix – Stocks to watch
3/11/2010 8:57:09 AM(RTTNews) OccuLogix, Inc. doing business as TearLab Corp. (TEAR) said its TearLab Osmolarity System will be installed in eight U.S. refractive surgery centers of eye care services company TLCVision Corp. The incorporation will allow TLCVision to study Dry Eye Disease symptoms as they relate to LASIK surgery.
The TearLab Osmolarity System is designed to measure the osmolarity of human tears to aid in the diagnosis of Dry Eye Disease or DED, in conjunction with other methods of clinical evaluation. High osmolarity correlates with severe dry eye. While tear osmolarity is considered the most accurate method for diagnosing and following dry eye disease patients, the challenge has been to gather large samples of tears for the testing, which is often an arduous task in patients with severe dry.
About the size of a telephone, The TearLab Osmolarity System requires less than 50 nL or nanoliters of tear fluid and displays quantitative osmolarity results in less than 30 seconds.
