Stone Temple Pilots reached the top of the Billboard 200 album chart with "Purple" on June 25, 1994.
The album was the second studio effort for the alternative rockers, who reached fame with their debut effort "Core" in 1992. "Purple" featured the hits "Big Empty" and "Interstate Love Song."
"Purple" took over number one from the Beastie Boys' "Ill Communication." It held on for three weeks before being replaced by the soundtrack to the movie "The Lion King."
