Today In Music History - June 27

The Black Eyed Peas hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart with their fifth studio release “The E.N.D." on June 27, 2009. The album followed their 2010 compilation “Renegotiations: The Remixes,” and includes their mega-smash singles “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling.”

When the album hit number one for its first stretch, it claimed the top spot from “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” by Dave Matthews Band. They were eventually succeeded by “Lines, Vines and Trying Times” by the Jonas Brothers.

Group member Taboo spoke with Marie Clare about “I Gotta Feeling” noting:

"This is the first time we actually had all four of us on a song simultaneously with the verses, which is something different for us. Usually we break up the verses and everybody has their parts. It was a good opportunity for us to show the world what would come of it."
