Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have released "American Dream Plan B," the lead single from their upcoming album, Hypnotic Eye. The cut is currently streaming via SoundCloud.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Petty says he knew he had something special with the song immediately:
"I said [to the Heartbreakers] 'Listen, I think we have something here, but we're going to have to get excited about it.'"
Hypnotic Eye, the follow-up to 2010's Mojo, hits July 29 on Reprise Records.
Fans who sign up for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' Highway Companions Fan Club will receive a CD copy of Hypnotic Eye as well as a new live album, Live 2013.
Petty is also said to be working on a deluxe reissue of 1994's Wildflowers this year.
