Sam Smith, the Weeknd and Lady Gaga were all nominated for Best Original Song at this year's Oscar awards. Smith was nominated for "Writing's on the Wall" (from the Spectre OST), Gaga for "Til It Happens to You" (from The Hunting Ground), and Weeknd for "Earned It" (Fifty Shades of Grey).
Gaga and Smith, according to many observers, are expected to be the frontrunners in the category.
"Thank you to THE ACADEMY for recognizing the movement of people who have come together for this film and song in the name of sexual assault," wrote Gaga on Twitter.
Other artists to earn nods include J. Ralph and Antony ("Manta Ray" from Racing Extinction), and David Lang ("Simple Song #3" Youth).
The Oscars air on ABC on February 28 at 7 p.m. EST.
