Justin Timberlake and will.i.am are currently being sued for copyright infringement over their 2006 song "Damn Girl."
PK Music Performance claims the hit is a rip-off of another song written by a member of A Taste of Honey, according to the lawsuit. The music publisher, which has the rights to the original song titled "A New Day is Here at Last," sued the two artists in Manhattan federal court, according to the court papers.
"The music in 'Damn Girl' is not the product of independent creation," the lawsuit says of the song, which appeared on Timberlake's album "Futuresex/Lovesounds."
"The portions of 'A New Day is Here at Last' copied in 'Damn Girl' are not only quantitatively substantial, but qualitatively important to 'A New Day Is Here At Last,' including the introduction, rhythm, harmony, melody, and 'hook' all of which are copyrightable elements individually and in combination."
Timberlake was previously sued for illegally sampling from the R&B group Sly, Slick & Wicked for his 2013 single "Suit & Tie."
