South Korea Industrial Output Jumps 1.0% In October

Industrial production in South Korea climbed a seasonally adjusted 1.0 percent on month in October, Statistics Korea said on Friday - following the 2.7 percent decline in September.

On a yearly basis, industrial production surged 10.7 percent after tumbling 8.4 percent in the previous month.

The Index of all industry production in October increased by 0.4 percent on month and 6.7 percent on year.

The Manufacturing Production Index added 0.8 percent on month and 11.1 percent on year. The Manufacturing Shipment Index eased 0.1 percent on month but jumped 11.0 percent on year. The Manufacturing Inventory Index gained 0.6 percent on month and 2.6 percent on year.

The Production Capacity Index in October increased 0.1 percent on month but fell 1.8 percent on year. The Index of Capacity Utilization Rate added 0.1 percent on month and 13.2 percent on year.

The Manufacturing Average Capacity Utilization Rate was 74.0 percent, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month. The Index of Services eased 0.3 percent on month and 5.4 percent on year. The Retail Sales Index gained 0.2 percent on month and 5.0 percent on year.

The Equipment Investment Index climbed 1.9 percent on month and 9.4 percent on year. The Domestic Machinery Shipment Index jumped 8.6 percent on year. The value of Domestic Machinery Orders Received spiked 7.6 percent on year.

The value of Construction Completed at constant prices fell 2.2 percent on month and 3.5 percent on year. The value of Construction Orders Received at current prices soared 12.6 percent on year.

The Composite Coincident Index in October was flat on month. The Cyclical Component of Composite Coincident Index, which reflects current economic situations, dipped 0.2 points from the previous month.

The Composite Leading Index in October showed no change from the previous month. The Cyclical Component of Composite Leading Index, which predicts the turning point in business cycle, fell 0.4 points on month.
