Mwana Africa Finance Director Resigns, Names Replacement - Update

Wednesday, pan-African resource company Mwana Africa Plc (MWA.L) said its finance director Peter Sydney-Smith has resigned from the board, effective immediately. The company also announced the appointment of Donald McAlister as replacement effective October 1.

McAlister, prior to joining the company, had been serving as finance director of Ridge Mining Plc from 1999 until its acquisition by platinum group metals producer Aquarius Platinum in July 2009.

McAlister has also worked as finance director of Reunion Mining Plc, and has handled finance roles at Centurion Mining Plc, Enterprise Oil Plc and Cluff Oil Plc. Currently, he is a non-executive director of AIM listed mining company Tertiary Minerals plc, where he is chairman of the Audit Committee.

Prior to joining London-based Mwana in June 2008, Peter Sydney-Smith served as finance director of African mining company Nikanor. He has also acted as finance director for Vedanta Resources plc, building materials group BPB plc and British Gypsum Limited.

MWA is currently trading at 13.00 pence per share, up 4.00%, on the London Stock Exchange.
