Vienna Mayor Says Jackson Tribute Was Not Well Organized

Vienna Mayor Michael Haup spoke out about the cancellation of a Michael Jackson tribute concert originally scheduled for September 26.

Event organizers, including Jermaine Jackson, originally announced the participation of artists like Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige and Natalie Cole, though none of them had confirmed the date.

The Vienna city council agreed to pick up the tab for the show but pulled out when artists began to cancel.

According to Haup, the event would have been "very interesting... had it been properly prepared and organized but it was not."

The city had initially committed €600,000 in hopes that the high-profile event would generate exposure. Vice Mayor Renate Brauner added that, "the advertising value is unlikely to be as high as we had initially expected it to be" and the city subsequently retracted funding.

The event is reportedly rescheduled for June 2010 in London.
