American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc.'s (AXL) third-quarter net income attributable to AAM was $19.6 million or $0.35 per share versus a loss of $440.9 million or $8.54 per share in the prior year. On average, 7 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected loss per share of $0.38 for the quarter. Analysts' estimate typically excludes one-time items.

Net income for the quarter was $19.6 million compared with a $441.1 million loss a year earlier.

Net sales for the third quarter of 2009 slipped to $409.6 million from $528.1 million in the year-ago period. Seven analysts estimated revenues of $420.34 million for the quarter.
