Martin Marietta Materials Q3 Profit Decreases; Updates FY09 EPS Guidance - Quick Facts

Martin Marietta Materials Inc. (MLM) reported that its third-quarter net income attributable to the company decreased to $55.5 million or $1.23 per share from $66.3 million or $1.57 per share last year.

Earnings from continuing operations decreased to $56.9 million from $68.5 million a year ago.

On average, 16 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit of $1.18 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Net sales decreased to $428.6 million from $525.7 million a year ago. Analysts expected revenue of $497.98 million for the quarter.

The company has revised its 2009 guidance for net earnings per share to a range of $2.20-$2.45.
