Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. (RRGB) reported net income of $5.7 million or $0.37 per share for the third quarter, compared to $6.2 million or $0.40 per share in the third quarter of 2008.
Adjusted net income was $6.9 million or $0.45 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Total company revenues decreased 10.4% to $187.0 million from $208.6 million in the prior year quarter.
Comparable restaurant sales decreased 14.9% for company-owned restaurants in the third quarter of 2009.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.37 per share on revenue of $197.54 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Looking ahead, the company expects restaurant-level operating margins could decline by 150 to 160 basis points for the fiscal year 2009. For every 10 basis point change in restaurant level operating profit during fiscal year 2009, earnings are estimated to be impacted by about $0.04 per share.
