Nordstrom Inc. (JWN) reported third quarter earnings of $83 million or $0.38 per share, compared to $71 million or $0.33 per share in the prior year period.
On average, eighteen analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.39 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net sales in the third quarter were $1.87 billion, up 3.5% from $1.80 billion in the same period a year-ago. Third quarter same-store sales decreased 1.2%.
Fourteen Wall Street analysts expected revenues of $1.87 billion for the quarter.
Looking forward, for the fiscal year 2009, the company said it expects earnings per share in the range of $1.83 to $1.88. Credit Card Revenues is forecast to increase in a range of $70 million to $75 million. Same-store Sales are expected to decrease 6% to 7%. Previously, the company estimated earnings in a range of $1.50 to $1.65 per share. Same-store sales were previously expected to decrease in the range of 9% to 12%.
Nineteen Street analysts expect earnings of $1.81 per share for the year.
