Tuesday, American Electric Power (AEP) awarded Alstom Power contracts worth US$100 million or EUR 70 Million to add power and reliability to its DC Cook 1 and Conesville 4 power plants in the US. American Electric Power will purchase steam turbines from Alstom Power for its DC Cook 1 nuclear power plant in Michigan and its Conesville 4 coal-fired generating unit in Ohio.
The replacement of turbines on these units will bring improved performance and reliability. The value of the contracts is in excess of USD 100 million. At the nuclear DC Cook facility, Alstom will provide three replacement low-pressure nuclear steam turbine rotors for unit 1. At the Conesville 4 unit, Alstom will provide a high-pressure rotor and parts and perform the turbine installation.
