Steven Tyler Writing Memoir

Steven Tyler's time away from Aerosmith might be linked to his newest creative endeavor - writing a memoir. The singer has reportedly been working on a book while his shoulder heals from an onstage mishap in South Dakota this August, which caused the band to cancel a tour.

Rumors have been flying around for weeks that Tyler is leaving Aerosmith, but his spokesperson says that he is simply taking a quick break to recover and writing an autobiography while he heals.

Guitarist Joe Perry and his bandmates think that something else is going on, however, and have insinuated that Tyler is back to using drugs.

"I suspect there's a lot more going on than we know about," guitarist Brad Whitford told Reuters. "He has a well-documented history of drug abuse, and I find myself very suspicious. I haven't seen him do this or . . . have any personal knowledge, but the isolation is very typical of addictive behavior, and his — what I call — irrational behavior."

Although Tyler did visit rehab in May 2008 to deal with substance abuse issues, his rep told People.com that he is just "concentrating on his book right now."
