Solarfun Power Names Gareth Kung CFO - Update

China-based solar products maker Solarfun Power Holdings Co. Ltd. (SOLF), Wednesday, said it has appointed Gareth Kung of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation as its Chief Financial Officer, replacing interim CFO Terry McCarthy, effective December 1, 2009.

Solarfun said that Gareth Kung has served Shanghai, China- based Semiconductor Manufacturing in various capabilities, starting as group treasurer and later as a group controller. He has been in-charge of treasury and various financing operations, including budget control, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and international tax planning operations at SMIC.

Earlier, Gareth served AIG Investment Corporation in Hong Kong as its investment manager. His responsibilities extended to the execution of private equity transactions of AIG in Asia Pacific.

Gareth's work experience also includes various positions in banks across China.

Pior to a four-year term at ABN Amro Bank N.V, taking care of debt financed transactions for corporations based in Hong Kong and China, he worked with UOB Asia Limited and Royal Bank of Canada, serving various responsibilities. He also served Pricewaterhouse Coopers as a senior auditor.

"Gareth's extensive experience in dealing with the financial and operational aspects of both technology and Chinese companies makes him well qualified to join our management team," commented Peter Xie, President of Solarfun.

The company also added that the interim CFO, Terry McCarthy, will continue as a member of the its board of directors.

SOLF last traded on Tuesday at US$6.32, losing 5.25% on the Nasdaq.
