Allegiant Air December Total System Load Factor, Traffic Up - Update

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Allegiant Travel Co. (ALGT) Tuesday said its total system traffic and capacity increased for December. Load factor for the total system that includes scheduled service, fixed fee contract and non-revenue flying was up 2.3 percentage points.

Allegiant Travel's total system December traffic increased 19.2% to 422.95 million revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 354.71 million RPMs in the comparable period last year. Capacity rose 16% to 480.94 million available seat miles or ASMs from 414.57 million ASMs in the corresponding period last year. Load factor increased 2.3 percentage points to 87.9% from 85.6% in the year-earlier period.

For the fourth quarter, total system traffic surged 24.2% to 1.12 billion RPMs from 905.6 million RPMs in the prior-year quarter. Capacity rose 23.9% to 1.30 billion ASMs from 1.05 billion ASMs while load factor, edged up 0.2 points to 86.7% from 86.5% in the same quarter of the previous year.

For the full year, total system traffic increased 23.3% to 4.76 billion RPMs from 3.86 billion RPMs last year. Capacity for the period jumped 22.7% to 5.45 billion ASMs from 4.44 billion recorded in the previous year. Load factor for the year was 87.4%, up 0.4 percentage points from 87% last year period.

Allegiant's' scheduled service traffic for December grew 18.6% to 406.24 million RPMs from 342.62 million RPMs in the comparable period last year. Capacity rose 16.1% to 448.4 million ASMs from 386.1 million ASMs a year ago. Load factor increased 1.9 percentage points to 90.6% from 88.7% a year earlier.

The company's scheduled service traffic for the fourth quarter increased 25.4% to 1.053 billion RPMs from 839.6 million RPMs in the same period last year. Capacity rose 24.7% to 1.167 billion ASMs from 935.7 million ASMs in the corresponding period of the previous year. Load factor edged up 0.5 points to 90.2% from 89.7% in the same period last year.

Allegiant said scheduled service traffic for 2009 rose 28.1% to 4.48 billion RPMs from 3.50 billion RPMs last year. Capacity rose 27.4% to 4.95 billion ASMs from 3.89 billion ASMs in the previous year. Load factor increased 0.5 points to 90.4% from 89.9% a year earlier.

ALGT is currently up $0.37 or 0.77% and trades at $48.38
