According to a recent poll released by live music website Pollstar.com, Metallica was the 15th highest grossing touring act of the last decade. The band grossed $225.5 million from a total of 3.6 million tickets sold.
Metallica is the only heavy rock band in the top twenty earners of the 2000s. Jimmy Buffett came in at number 10 with $285.8 million earned, the Rolling Stones at number five with $426.9 million and Dave Matthews Band at the top spot with $529.1 million.
Metallica's current World Magnetic tour has been a significant contributor to the band's success this decade. Billboard recently ranked the tour its eleventh highest earning tour of 2009, pulling in a total of nearly $80 million dollars.
The group is about to embark on the eighth leg of the ten-leg, 158-show trek. The upcoming string of dates kicks off on January 19 at the National Stadium in Lima, Peru, and wraps up at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan on March 14.
