In a prepared statement on their label's website, the White Stripes, along with their management and publisher, have accused the U.S. Air Force Reserves of stealing their music for a commercial that aired during Sunday's Super Bowl.
On the site, the group provides the official video for the song "Fell in Love with a Girl" - from their 2001 release, White Blood Cells - side by side with the commercial in question. According to the statement, the song was rerecorded by a different group and used without permission.
"We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of The White Stripes, our publishers, label or management," reads the post, which sits below the two videos.
"The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserves presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support. We have not license this song to the Air Force Reserve and we plan to take strong action to stop the ad containing the music," the statement continued.
