Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is teaming up with Dora the Explorer to make a backpack for charity. Children's network Nickelodeon is planning a limited-edition series of celebrity-designed backpacks that will be available for auction this summer.
Shakira and Salma Hayek are also reportedly involved. Additional participants are expected to be announced soon.
The backpacks will be auctioned off this summer in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.
The U.S. proceeds will benefit the Children's Defense Fund and proceeds in other countries will go toward childhood education.
In other news, Slash has also teamed up with former Guns N' Roses producer Mike Clink and Guitar Center to find the next great rock band. The winning act will write and record a song with Slash, while Clink will produce a three-song EP by the band. The winning act will also get a development deal from the Collective management firm (Linkin Park, Slash) and the chance to open for Slash at a concert.
