American Airlines, American Eagle August Traffic Rises - Update

AMR Corp. (AMR) subsidiaries American Airlines and American Eagle, Friday reported a 3.1% and 13.8% increase in August traffic, respectively, from a year ago. For August, American Airlines' capacity rose 3.2%, while load factor declined 0.1 percentage points. American Eagle's August capacity increased 13.2% and load factor improved 0.4 points from last year.

For American Airlines, August system traffic rose 3.1% to 11.51 billion Revenue Passenger Miles or RPMs from 11.17 billion RPMs last year. Monthly capacity improved 3.2% to 13.61 billion available seat miles or ASMs from 13.19 billion ASMs a year ago. Load factor declined 0.1 points to 84.6%.

American boarded 7.71 million passengers in August, a 0.1% decline from the previous year.

Year-to-date, American Airlines' traffic rose 1.7% to 84.39 billion RPMs, as capacity declined 0.3% to 102.62 billion ASMs from last year. Load factor for the period rose 1.6 points to 82.2%.

American Eagle's monthly system traffic increased 13.8% to 775.98 million RPMs from 682.16 million RPMs last year. System capacity for the month was 1.06 billion ASMs, up 13.2% from 0.94 billion ASMs a year ago. August load factor rose 0.4 points to 73.1%.

American Eagle boarded 1.67 million passengers in August, up 0.1% from last year.

Year-to-date, American Eagle's system traffic increased 7.0% to 5.49 billion RPMs, as capacity rose 6.6% to 7.61 billion ASMs from the previous year. Load factor for the period improved 0.3 points to 72.1%.

AMR closed Friday's regular trading at $6.35, up $0.04 or 0.63%, on a volume of 8.16 million shares on the NYSE. In after hours, the stock further moved up $0.03 or 0.48%, trading at $6.34.
