June Diane Raphael has been cast on Fox's "New Girl" as friend to Zooey Deschanel's character Jess, who also happens to be a lesbian gynecologist.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Raphael plays Sadie, a "smart, slightly intimidating but helpful friend who is an OB/GYN by day and a skilled archery player by night," who offers Nick (Jake Johnson) a diagnosis for a "health problem."

Raphael has had roles in the recent films "Bride Wars" and "Going the Distance"; in addition, she has starred alongside her husband, Paul Scheer, in Adult Swim's "NTSF:SD:SUV," a parodic take on crime procedurals and action flicks.

June Diane Raphael's turn as a homosexual, advice-giving OB/GYN comes during the ninth episode of "New Girl," which will air on November 1.
