Paul Brittain has left "Saturday Night Live."
The 34-year-old comedian's departure was announced abruptly and takes effect immediately, with Brittain leaving before this week's upcoming episode with host Channing Tatum. According to Entertainment Weekly, a source close to the show noted that the actor's departure from the show was "friendly:" "[He] had the opportunity to pursue other projects, and he and the show parted ways amicably."
Brittain—who is the nephew of comedian Bob Newhart--joined the show at the beginning of its 36th season in September 2010 and was known for playing characters including "Sex" Ed Vincent, Goran "Funky Boy" Bogdan, and Lord Wyndemere, as well as for his impersonations of James Franco, Ron Paul and Johnny Depp.
Representatives for the show and for Brittain have not commented on his departure.
