Martina McBride will sing the "Star Spangled Banner" at the 96th annual Indianapolis 500 race on May 27 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
"I am extremely excited that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has invited me to this year's Indy 500," Martina says via her official website. "It is a huge honor to sing the national anthem at what is known as the 'Greatest Spectacle in Racing.'"
Speedway spokesman Doug Boles told The Indianapolis Star that officials wanted a performer who would sing the national anthem in the traditional manner.
McBride is currently on the road for a tour of smaller theaters which picks up at Austin City Limits in Austin, Texas on May 17 and runs through early November when it wraps at the Palladium in Carmel, Indiana.
