Vical Inc. (VICL) announced the online publication of a new article in The Journal of General Virology detailing results from the company's completed mouse studies with the company's Vaxfectin-formulated plasmid DNA vaccines against herpes simplex virus type 2, or HSV-2. These results, along with previously presented results from guinea pig studies, support the company's decision in early 2012 to advance toward clinical testing, which is expected to begin in 2013.
HSV-2 is a sexually transmitted virus which is the leading cause of genital herpes.
