Microsoft announced yesterday that its 'Surface Pro' tablet will available for sale in January 2013. Panos Panay, General Manager of Microsoft Surface, shared the information on a blogpost, detailing the basic specifications and pricing of the new tablet.

The 'Surface Pro' will be offered in two variants, a 64GB standalone version at $899 and a 128GB standalone version at $999. Apart from that, they will both feature Intel i5 processors, a 1920x1080 full HD display, a mini display port that can drive an external display up to 2560X1440 resolution, and USB 3.0 ports for connectivity.

The good news is that unlike the 'Surface RT' tablets that came out a month ago, the new 'Surface Pro' tablets will be able to run all Windows 7 applications and function like a regular computer. This one detail alone makes the 'Surface RT' range insignificant and will upset customers who purchased it. After its launch in October, experts wondered as to why Microsoft released a stripped down, lackluster version of what promises to be one of the most successful devices in tablet history.

The new device will weigh a little less than two pounds, be less than 14 millimeters thick and will have that handy kickstand supporting from behind.
