A 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Japan's Miyagi prefecture on Friday prompting the country's meteorological agency to issue a tsunami alert for the prefecture.
According to Japanese media reports, the tremor was felt even in Tokyo where buildings shook violently.
No casualties or damage to property were reported so far, the report said.
