Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards have successfully taken control of an enemy reconnaissance drone during war games, the official news agency IRNA reported on Saturday, quoting General Hamid Sarkheili, spokesman for the military exercise.

'A foreign spy drone was hacked outside the field of Payambar-e Azam 8 wargames on Saturday,' Sarkheili said.

He added that all foreign spy drone movements in far distances were observed and controlled by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) special modern warfare task forces on Saturday, the first day of the military drills

Sarkheili said the IRGC forces also tested targeting hypothetical enemies' drones, and used different types of UAVs in the wargames, which are being held in the southeastern province of Kerman.

The IRNA report did not say where the drone came from.

Iran had earlier claimed to have extracted top-secret data after capturing several US drones that allegedly entered its airspace.
