Romania Feb. Industrial Output Rises, Trade Deficit Falls To 10-Year Low

Romania's industrial production increased notably from last year in February, data released by the National Institute of Statistics showed Tuesday.

Industrial production, on an unadjusted basis, increased 6.8 percent year-on-year in February. Mining and quarrying production jumped 14.3 percent annually, and manufacturing output increased by 9.7 percent. Meanwhile, there was a 14.4 percent fall in the production and supply of electricity, gas, heat and air conditioning.

Sequentially, industrial output advanced a seasonally adjusted 1 percent in February. During the two months ended February, production climbed 6.4 percent from the corresponding period a year earlier, data showed.

Separately, the agency said Romania's trade deficit narrowed to a 10-year low of EUR 208.2 million in February. In February 2012, the balance was a deficit of EUR 509.3 million.

Export of goods increased 10 percent annually during the month, and imports advanced 1.3 percent. Month-on-month, exports and imports increased 4.6 percent and 2 percent respectively.
