Ireland's construction activity shrunk for the seventieth consecutive month in March with accelerated declines in activity, new orders and employment, survey data from Markit Economics showed on Monday.

The Ulster Bank Construction Purchasing Managers' Index fell to 43.1 in March, from 45.3 in February. A reading below 50 shows contraction in the sector.

Among the different construction sectors, civil engineering activity logged the steepest decline , which was the fastest in three months. Housing activity fell sharply, but the reduction was the weakest of the three sectors.
