Mexican Unemployment Rate Drops For Second Month

Mexico's unemployment rate decreased for the second successive month in March, and at a faster rate than expected by economists, latest data showed Friday.

The unemployment rate decreased to 4.51 percent in March from 4.85 percent in February, statistical office INEGI said. In January the figure was 5.42 percent. Economists had forecast a more modest decrease to 4.67 percent for March.

The share of underemployed persons in the total labor force decreased to 7.79 percent from 8.32 percent in March 2012.

The labor force participation rate was 57.83 percent in March, lower than 58.76 percent recorded in the same month a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 5.01 percent from 4.74 percent in February, data showed.
