Italy's Consumer Sentiment Improves Unexpectedly In April

Italy's consumer confidence improved from the previous month in April, contrary to economists' forecast for a deterioration, latest data showed Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index increased to 86.3 in April from 85.3 in March. Economists had forecast the index to drop to 85.

Consumers' views of the current situation turned more upbeat during the month, with the corresponding sub-indicator rising to 90.1 from 89.2 in the previous month. Meanwhile, the measure of sentiment regarding personal finances decreased to 90.5 in April from 91.4 in the previous month.

Households were more upbeat about the country's economic climate in April. The corresponding sub-index rose to 73.5 from 69.2 in the previous month. The measures of future economic climate edged up to 80.8 from 80.3, data showed.
