Hungary's Unemployment Rate Rises In January-March

Hungary's unemployment rate increased more than expected in the three months to March, a report from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Friday.

The unemployment rate rose to 11.8 percent in January-March period from 11.6 percent in December-February. Economists expected a marginal increase to 11.7 percent.

The number of unemployment persons edged up to 508,700 during the period from 501,900 in the previous three-month period.

In a separate report, the statistical office said that the number of employed people remained steady at 3.82 million in the three months to March. The employment rate edged up to 50 percent from 49.9 percent in the previous three-month period.
