Macau's Unemployment Rate Stays Stable In Q1

Macau's unemployment rate remained unchanged in the first quarter, data released by the Statistics and Census Service showed Monday.

The unemployment rate came in a 1.9 percent in the first three months of 2013, unchanged from the preceding three-month period. The number of unemployed persons increased modestly to 7,000 in the first quarter from 6,800 in the fourth quarter.

The underemployment rate edged up to 0.8 percent in the first quarter from 0.7 percent in the final three months of 2012.

There were around 352,400 employed persons during the three-month period, slightly higher than the preceding quarter's 351,800. The labor force participation rate dropped by 0.1 percentage point sequentially to 71.8 in the first quarter, data showed.
