Laurie Anderson, the wife of Lou Reed, says her husband is convalescing after an emergency liver transplant. She dished to the U.K. paper, the London Times, noting the severity of Reed's condition.
"He was dying. You don't get it for fun. You send out two planes — one for the donor, one for the recipient — at the same time. You bring the donor in live, you take him off life support. I was completely awestruck. I find certain things about technology truly, deeply inspiring."
She added that fans, who've already suffered a Reed cancelation at Coachella, will have to wait awhile before the former Velvet Underground fronter is back in the public eye:
"[H]e'll certainly be back to doing [things] in a few months. He's already working and doing t'ai chi. I'm very happy. It's a new life for him."
