Elton John says he's happy to be alive after suffering a bout of appendicitis while on a European trek. The 66-year-old, speaking with The Sun, believed he was sick from food poisoning—but the cause turned out to be much more severe:
"I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and grateful to be alive."
Elton was scheduled to play a show in London's Hyde Park on Friday, but later notified doctors that he felt ill.
"Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates," a spokesman for the "Rocket Man" said regarding his summer tour dates.
According to John's website, he is still scheduled to perform a 28-date 2013 tour which begins on September 4 at England's Leeds Arena, and ends on December 18 at Prague's O2 Arena.
