Some consumer groups have hit out at Katy Perry for accepting an endorsement deal with Pepsi. According to some groups the pop diva is using her celebrity status to influence her young fan base to make unhealthy dietary choices.
One specific group, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, have released a statement against the endorsement deal writing:
"It's a sad story that some of the best-known celebrities in the country are encouraging their young audiences to drink beverages that are bad for their health," says Michael Jacobson, executive director of the group. "We're focusing on Katy because she's so popular with young people."
Thus far Perry has not responded to the claims. Reps from Pepsi have, however, released a statement saying:
"We have a long history of responsible advertising and marketing practices, including a commitment to not direct our advertising to audiences comprised predominantly of children under 12."
