Toby Keith has never been one to shy away from controversy although it seems he inadvertently ruffled some feathers with his 2009 hit "American Ride." In the track Keith references the famed lawsuit in which 79-year-old Stella Liebeck sued McDonalds after she was scalded by a cup of hot coffee.
In the track Keith reference's Liebeck's case as an example of injustice in America: "Spill a cup of coffee / Make a million dollars."
According to Liebeck's family, however, they story was wildly sensationalized, and the victim actually received third degree burns, requiring extensive skin grafts.
In a recent interview Liebeck's daughter said they've always resented Keith's lyrics:
"I like Toby Keith but he did the 'American Ride,'" Liebeck's daughter states. "Do we have to keep living this over and over and over again?"
