Zoltan Bathory, guitarist for Five Finger Death Punch, says that his band is better at connecting with audiences than most metal acts. Speaking with Loud magazine, Zoltan said the group's lyrics are the basis of that connection:
"Some bands sing about Viking warriors and dragons and all that, which also is fine, but it's never going to connect with the audience, because it's irrelevant to them, to most people," he began.
"So when your lyrics also connect, it's everyday stuff; the things that piss you off, the things that make you happy, the things that you struggle with, and that will definitely strike a chord with a lot of people."
He added that the connection has helped the band move records in the internet era:
"Buying the record is actually a gesture from the fans that 'I pledge my alliance to this band. I love this band, and I will support them."
