Taiwan's trade surplus for February increased from a year ago, figures from the Ministry of Finance showed Friday.
The trade surplus rose to US$1.57 billion from US$932.1 million in the same month last year. It is the smallest surplus in 12 months.
Economists had forecast a surplus of US$1.50 billion. In January, the country logged a surplus of US$2.97 billion.
Exports grew 7.9 percent year-on-year, after a 5.3 percent slump in January. Economists were looking for 7.1 percent growth.
The latest increase in exports was the strongest since June last year, when shipments rose 8.7 percent. Shipments of electronic products grew 18.1 percent.
Imports rose 4.9 percent annually, after a 15.2 percent fall in the previous month.
