Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) has promoted Greg Foran to President and CEO of Walmart U.S. Foran, replacing Bill Simon who has been in that post since June 2010 and would be transitioning out of the company. On August 9, Foran would assume his roles and would directly report to Walmart President and CEO, Doug McMillon. In order to ensure a seamless transition, Simon would be available on a consulting basis for the next 6 months.

Foran, a 35-year retail veteran, joined the firm in October 2011 and became President and CEO of Walmart China in March 2012. He was promoted to President and CEO of Walmart Asia earlier this year. Earlier to Walmart, Foran held several roles with Woolworths, a retailer in Australia and New Zealand.

The company would name Foran's successor as President and CEO of Walmart Asia at a later date.
