Spain Jobless Claims Log Biggest Decline For November

Spanish jobless claims registered a record decline for the month of November, the Labor Ministry said Tuesday.

The number of those claiming jobless benefits fell by 14,688 persons in November from the previous month. It was the biggest decline in the series for the month. Jobless claims dropped for a second straight month.

The total number of unemployed was 4.51 million in November. A year ago, the fall in jobless claims was 2,475.

Year-on-year, jobless claims declined by 296,792 persons or 6.17 percent, which was the largest annual fall for the month since 1998, the ministry said.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the registered unemployment declined by 51,308 persons, which was also the biggest fall in the series as well as the second highest for any month.

In the January to November period, unemployment dropped by 189,222 persons, the biggest cumulative decline for the eleven-month period in sixteen years.

Youth unemployment, which applies to those under 25 years of age, fell by 35,451 persons or 7.8 percent from a year ago.
